Don't Lose Your Joy

I don't know about you, but life can sometimes feel so overwhelming.
Everywhere we look, someone seems to be telling us how we should live our lives.
Social media is full of messages like:
"Host an Event your friends will never forget."
"Here's how I got fit in 90 days—you should too!"
"As a stay-at-home mom, this is what I do. You can do it too!"
Yes, those things may sound exciting, and there is nothing wrong with learning from others. But at the end of the day, there is only One who should define how we live our lives—and that is God.
It is so easy to get caught up in the rat race of trying to keep up with everyone else. Before we know it, we find ourselves comparing our lives to others and wondering if we're doing enough. I know I can easily fall into that trap, trying to keep up with "the Joneses," when the only opinion that truly matters is what my Heavenly Father thinks of me.
Can I ask you something?

For me, comparison often shows up in motherhood.
Sometimes I catch myself believing the lie that another mom is doing a better job than I am. Deep down, I know that isn't true, but the enemy loves to whisper lies into our hearts.
He tells us things like:
"You're not good enough."
"You're not strong enough."
"Another mom would do a better job than you."
"You raised your voice again. You're failing."
Do any of those thoughts sound familiar?
They certainly do for me.
The Bible tells us that Satan is "the father of lies" (John 8:44). His goal is to distract us from the truth of who God says we are.
But can I tell you something beautiful?
Our Heavenly Father doesn't look at us through the lens of our failures.
He doesn't say, "Brooke, you messed up again."
He doesn't compare us to someone else.
Instead, He lovingly reminds us of who we are in Him.
He says:
"See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!"— 1 John 3:1
"I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well."— Psalm 139:14
"God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God."— 2 Corinthians 5:21
Friend, comparison is a trap.
It steals your joy.
It steals your peace.
And most importantly, it steals your focus from becoming the woman God uniquely created you to be.
Comparison only steals you from becoming all God has called you to be.
Don't fall into the enemy's trap.
If you need to take a break from social media, take one.
If you need to spend time praying and asking God to help you stop comparing yourself to others, do it.
If you need to remind yourself daily of God's promises, write them on sticky notes, place them on your mirror, or keep them in your journal.
Healing begins when we replace the enemy's lies with God's truth.
Remember, you are not alone.
I believe in you, but even more importantly, God believes in the purpose He placed inside of you. He created you intentionally, and no one else can fulfill the calling He has given you.
So today, choose to stop measuring your life against someone else's highlight reel.
Instead, fix your eyes on Jesus and walk confidently in the life He has prepared just for you.
